We all know that how impressive the pictures of galaxies, shiny stars, wonderful planets and even some basic space rocks can be.
We’ve just came across with those pictures in social media once in a while. But imagine getting into an archive and spending as much time as you want in almost infinite, wonderful and at the same time informative pictures. That would be really nice if there was a page that shows this type of picture for people into this astronomy thing. There actually is! By NASA!
Okay so, you have been telling about this website in a very grandiose way. Make it clear! Sure thing!
What is it?
NASA’s “Astronomy Picture of the Day” (APOD) was created in 1995 and since then, every day they’ve been posting an astronomy picture. These pictures are mostly about space explorations, space objects, astronomical events and sometimes about science fiction pictures. Their aim with these types of pictures is to make everyone like astronomy and sharing information about space. Also making itself a really big archive (since they’ve been posting for a long time) and an open heaven for space nerds :).
Pictures with Explainations!
Every picture has a short description next to it and these descriptions are mostly about what the picture is, how it was taken and explains its scientific significance. The given information and descriptions with the daily picture will appeal to both astronomy enthusiasts and more advanced scientists.
Friendly Website for Everyone
Every single day APOD gets visited by millions of people around the world. The concept and really basic design (looks like website from 90’s but it is interestingly pleasing to the eye. Now that I think about it, it is actually a website from the 90’s but anyway) doesn’t make the visitors confused and makes it really easy to use. All the visitors can have discussions about whichever picture they want; they can also access additional resources and articles for those who want to go deeper!
You Can Also Have Fun!
Fun fact! If you weren’t born before June 16th 1995 you can see which picture they posted the day that you were born! How cool is that!
I’ve been visiting this website some time to time since 2020 and I find it a really cool and easy way for the people who want to get into astronomy, who want to gain a good knowledge and maybe who wants to have a daily routine.
Before I finish this writing and giving today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day, don’t forget:
The future is in the skies!
